About the role

  • Senior Manager managing event content development for impactful public sector experiences. Collaborating with editorial and marketing teams to deliver high-quality programming.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the vision and structure of event programming, from ideation to execution, ensuring each event delivers timely, relevant, and impactful conversations for public sector audiences.
  • Collaborate with editorial teams and clients to shape written summaries, event overviews, and agendas that translate GovExec’s journalism into engaging live experiences.
  • Research, recommend, and recruit keynote speakers, panelists, and moderators across federal, defense, and state/local government sectors.
  • Lead outreach efforts and coordinate with government public affairs offices to secure high-level participation for events.
  • Develop briefing materials, background research, and curated questions to ensure moderators and speakers are fully prepared.
  • Manage content execution during live events, ensuring smooth speaker transitions, audience engagement, and alignment with the event narrative.
  • Monitor public sector news, policy developments, and event trends to keep programming relevant and ahead of industry shifts.
  • Partner with Events Leadership to set and manage team-wide content priorities, ensuring alignment with GovExec’s broader business objectives.
  • Communicate content priorities with internal stakeholders and ensure cross-team coordination throughout the event lifecycle.
  • Lead or support strategic initiatives focused on speaker engagement, long-term content development, and innovation in event programming.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts within the content team, mentoring junior team members where appropriate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Political Science, English, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in event content development, program strategy, or editorial work — preferably in the events, media, or public sector space.
  • Strong understanding of federal, defense, and/or state and local government sectors.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with a sharp eye for detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects under tight deadlines.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, particularly with high-level government officials, industry executives, and client partners.
  • Experience leading client-facing conversations and tailoring content to meet sponsor or partner objectives while maintaining editorial integrity.
  • Confident communicator with excellent presentation skills and an ability to represent GovExec with polish and professionalism.
