About the role

  • Design & Release Engineer focusing on Propulsion Thermal Systems Engineering for Ford’s V6 Nano Engine Powerpack Team. Responsible for design and release activities on engine components and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and release valvetrain and cam drive subsystem and components which meet program requirements and timing in accordance with Ford GPDS milestones.
  • Lead / Support resolution of all design, manufacturing, quality, and launch issues.
  • Create, complete, and approve supplier and Ford engine DVPs and oversee testing in support of robust validation.
  • Lead Sub System CPMT activities.
  • Support all program meetings (EPMT, Design Review, DPMT, change control, etc.).
  • Lead drawing release and changes.
  • Interface with Calibration, mating components, Purchasing, suppliers, and mfg./assembly plants.
  • Prototype Build coordination: load forward model part numbers into system and ensure fit and function.
  • Work directly with suppliers, Supplier Technical Assistance (STA), and launch teams to support programs and resolve quality issues, including travel both domestic and international when required.
  • WERS (Worldwide engineering release system) coordination; alerts, Concerns and SREA processing.
  • Develop and maintain CPMT documents, including appropriate quality documents (ESOW, DFMEA, FEDE, e3P, SCCAF’s, Global Integrator, OPTEX, PPAP & PSW’s, 543 Chart etc.) for program specific sub-system responsibilities.
  • Create, complete, and approve supplier and internal DV/PV test plans and oversee testing in support of robust validation.
  • Lead/Support warranty reduction and issue resolution using a structured 8D documented approach.
  • Lead/Support TVM cost reduction idea generation and implementation.
  • Lead/Support change control activities.
  • Travel as necessary to Ford Assembly Plants/Facilities and Suppler/Sub-Supplier sites for issue resolution and build support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • 2+ years of valvetrain and/or cam drive component and system/subsystem D&R experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Knowledge of FMEA’s, Control Plans, and DV/PV Plans.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and Dimensional Control (SPC, Statistics, Etc.)
  • Strong problem solving skills and background.
  • An eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment where you are part of a high performing team
  • Even better, you may have…
  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • Other component and Systems/Subsystems internal combustion engine D&R experience.
  • Proven delivery of balanced Quality, Cost, Weight and Functional attributes for components / sub-systems.
  • Utilization of Six Sigma tools & problem-solving tools. (8D’s, 3 legged 5 Why’s, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of NVH, Materials, Durability, and Manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of Ford Motor Company’s Global Product Development System and design release process
