About the role

  • Senior Legislation & Standards Engineer supporting legislation compliance in the maritime defence industry. Remote role with occasional site visits to Frimley/Barrow in Furness.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing supplier documents, specifically legislation compliance reports, declarations of conformity, technical files, bills of materials, components, lists etc.
  • Peer review of contract documents such as requirements, technical compliance matrices, ITTs etc for legislative requirements
  • Liaising with programme managers, engineering managers, technical authorities and engineers
  • Attending meetings with suppliers to help find solutions to issues with supplier documentation
  • Provide technical guidance to other engineers and support the engineering management team in planning and controlling specialist activities
  • Work with various engineering teams to improve own levels of domain knowledge and subject matter expertise

Requirements

  • Degree in engineering
  • Where applicable suitable experience in addition to a lower qualification would be acceptable
  • Knowledge of process and/or governance processes and practices in the defence, maritime or highly regulated industry
  • Understand the need for, and have awareness of, product safety and SHE
  • A Working knowledge of some of the following: Def Stan 00-02 – Environmental Specification Def Stan 00-055 – Security Management Def Stan 00-250 – Human Factors Integration Def Stan 07-247 – Naval Engineering Standards : UKCA / CE Marking Machinery Regulation/Directive EMC Regulation/Directive Low Voltage Regulation/Directive RoHS REACH Radio Equipment Regulation/Directive Pressure Equipment Regulations/Directive : UK HASAWA 1974 (Health and Safety at Work Act) PUWER (equipment safety) LOLER (lifting operations) COSHH (hazardous substances)
  • A working knowledge of ITAR/EAR
  • A working knowledge of WEEE
  • Previous experience/understanding of Legal Processes would be very desirable
  • Experience in engineering – electrical, mechanical or electro-mechanical would be desirable
