Lead the mechanical design and development of UAV components and systems, including airframes, propulsion systems, landing gear, and payload integration.
Collaborate closely with the aerodynamics, electrical, and software teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical components with the overall UAV system architecture.
Conduct detailed mechanical analyses, including structural, thermal, and fatigue analysis, using simulation tools and hand calculations.
Lead the creation of detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and bills of materials (BOM) for all mechanical components.
Lead and participate in design reviews, providing technical guidance and ensuring designs meet performance, safety, and reliability standards.
Coordinate with manufacturing teams to ensure that designs can be efficiently produced and assembled, considering materials, processes, and cost constraints.
Support testing and validation efforts, including ground and flight tests, to verify the performance and reliability of mechanical systems.
Continuously evaluate and improve design processes, materials, and technologies to enhance UAV performance and reduce development time.
Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and internal quality control procedures.
Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership within the mechanical engineering team.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
7+ years of experience in mechanical design and analysis, preferably in the aerospace or UAV industry.
Expertise in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, or NX) and mechanical simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus).
Strong understanding of materials science, particularly composites and lightweight materials used in UAV construction.
Hands-on experience with the design, prototyping, and testing of UAV systems or related aerospace systems.
Experience with manufacturing processes, including CNC machining, injection molding, and composite fabrication.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements for UAVs is a plus.
Experience working with both small and large UAV systems, including VTOL and fixed-wing platforms.
