About the role

  • Finance Officer responsible for financial management and reporting at Cuso International in Peru. Collaborating with teams to ensure compliance and effective budget utilization.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in the organization’s accounting system.
  • Record all financial transactions in accordance with organizational policies and donor requirements.
  • Ensure proper coding of expenses according to project budgets and cost categories.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, advances, and balance sheet accounts on a regular basis.
  • Monitor project expenditures against approved budgets.
  • Support program staff in understanding financial reports and budget utilization.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal management.
  • Contribute to donor financial reports in compliance with donor requirements.
  • Identify and communicate budget variances and potential financial risks.
  • Ensure financial management complies with donor regulations (e.g., Global Affairs Canada, other institutional donors).
  • Verify that expenses charged to projects are eligible and supported by proper documentation.
  • Maintain organized financial documentation to support audits and donor reviews.
  • Assist in the preparation of donor financial reports and supporting schedules.
  • Process payments and reimbursements to suppliers, partners, volunteers, and staff in accordance with internal controls.
  • Review payment requests for completeness, eligibility, and proper authorization.
  • Maintain accurate cash flow forecasts and monitor liquidity.
  • Manage petty cash and ensure proper reconciliation.
  • Prepare and submit funds requisitions to Central Office every month.
  • Prepare and issue income receipts.
  • Review financial reports submitted by implementing partners.
  • Verify supporting documentation for partner expenditures where required.
  • Monitor partner budgets and provide guidance on financial compliance.
  • Support capacity building of partners on financial management when necessary.
  • Ensure adherence to internal financial policies and procedures.
  • Support implementation of strong internal controls to prevent fraud and financial errors.
  • Participate in internal compliance checks and spot reviews.
  • Maintain proper filing and documentation systems for financial records.
  • Prepare documentation and schedules required for internal and external audits.
  • Respond to audit queries and provide supporting evidence for transactions.
  • Support implementation of audit recommendations.
  • Work closely with the local team and Central Office on financial planning and budget monitoring.
  • Provide financial guidance to non-finance staff on procedures and compliance.
  • Participate in project planning processes and budget preparation.
  • Support preparation of project budgets and budget revisions.
  • Maintain financial trackers for project expenditures and commitments.
  • Contribute to financial process improvements and efficiency initiatives.
  • Prepare the payroll for all the projects being implemented in the CPO.
  • Print and distribute staff’s payslips.
  • Fulfill other responsibilities, as required by the line manager, the Country Representative, SHARE Regional Manager or Central Office from time to time.
  • Regular travel within Peru, particularly Piura, Arequipa, and Ica, and internationally when required.

Requirements

  • Relevant accreditation in Finance, Accounting or Financial Management
  • At least five (5) years of relevant experience in financial management related to implementing and managing project budgets, including monitoring and budget planning.
  • Experience in developing, planning, and managing large budgets for international donors, such as GAC, UN agencies, and other donors.
  • Experience working with financial and accounting software and spreadsheets like Excel, SAGE, and QuickBooks.
  • Experience in preparing accurate and detailed financial reports.
  • A strong track record of providing high-quality customer service to internal and external clients, including partners and donors.
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-sufficient with IT tools (Outlook, email, databases, Excel, PowerPoint, among others) and a willingness to develop IT skills to enhance work effectiveness.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Peruvian tax laws and processes
