About the role

  • Trauma Counsellor providing counselling for clients of the MOST program at Klinic Community Health. Supporting individuals with opioid dependence through onsite trauma support and treatment planning.

Responsibilities

  • Provides counselling to individuals accessing the MOST, opioid substance use and treatment program.
  • Practices and promotes leading practices
  • Maintains confidentiality and professionalism
  • Creates a safe(r) space for program participants
  • Completes intake, assessment, progress reports, summaries, charts and other administrative tasks relevant to the position
  • Participates in program development, implementation, monitoring and quality assurance
  • Actively participates in self-development; including evaluations and training opportunities
  • Engages in regular clinical supervision and program meetings
  • Connects clients with internal and external resources
  • Adhere to all agency policies, protocols and best practices
  • Perform other duties and functions related to job description but not exceeding above stated capacities

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in the social sciences, graduate degree preferred
  • A minimum of 2 years direct experience providing in person counselling to children/individuals/ families in a supervised clinical setting
  • A minimum of 2 years working with children and families
  • A demonstrative understanding of the following: Intimate partner violence and the impact on family dynamics, crisis intervention, substance use, mental health, self-harm, trauma and unresolved trauma
  • Awareness and understanding of Strength Based, Person Centered, Trauma Informed, Brief Solution Focused Care and Holistic care practices
  • Have a thorough baseline understanding of addictions, substance use and Harm reductions models of care.
  • Knowledge of systems and the impact on children/individuals/families
  • Experience working within an anti-oppressive lens, demonstrated cultural humility and how privilege, power and intersectionality impact experience of intimate partner violence
  • Strong clinical assessment skills and the ability to chart accurate documentation using leading practices
  • Understanding of the role of professional self-reflection in the counselling process
  • Able to work independently as well as contribute to a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills [verbal and written]
  • Experience and training in leading support groups is an asset
  • Knowledge of intergenerational trauma is an asset
