About the role

  • Manager of Priority Communities managing multicultural program delivery at the Department of Premier and Cabinet. Leading engagement with stakeholders and supporting government priorities in Victoria.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team in delivering high quality policy advice and program delivery to support newly arrived and priority multicultural communities.
  • Lead on engagement with the Commonwealth Government on settlement policies.
  • Support the delivery of other key Victorian Government priorities such as the Victorian African Communities Action Plan and relevant election commitments.
  • Engage with the Victorian Multicultural Commission, multicultural and settlement sector peak bodies, community organisations and intergovernmental representatives.
  • Lead complex multi-disciplinary projects and manage and develop a team in the preparation of high-quality briefs and written advice, including for the Minister for Multicultural Affairs and senior departmental executives.
  • Work closely with other managers across Multicultural Affairs and the wider department to ensure policy and program design aligns with portfolio priorities.
  • Maintain relationships with stakeholders within the multicultural community and settlement sectors.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated effective people management to support and create the conditions for a high functioning, productive and engaged team.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and leadership skills in addressing issues from the perspective of what the government requires and translating organisational strategy into meaningful long-term plans and objectives.
  • Strong written communication skills: prepares briefs, letters, emails and reports using clear, concise and grammatically correct language.
  • Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills with the ability to identify practical solutions to complex problems.
  • Demonstrated experience providing authoritative, high quality and timely advice on program and/or project design, implementation and evaluation in a dynamic and complex environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, representational and communication skills, including the ability to influence and negotiate effectively at all levels and a proven capacity to develop effective relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders and partners.
  • Desirable Experience in working with multicultural communities and organisations to deliver programs that provide impactful outcomes for communities in Victoria.
