Responsibilities
- Design for User Experience: Translate customer needs and product requirements into intuitive, ergonomic, and aesthetically refined mechanical designs
- Design for Manufacturing & Assembly: Create designs optimized for manufacturability, cost efficiency, scalability, and serviceability (DFM/DFA)
- Produce detailed CAD models, assemblies, and drawings with proper GD&T annotations
- Build and test prototypes to validate function, user interaction, and manufacturability
- Work closely with vendors, fabricators, and contract manufacturers to ensure design intent is met and parts are delivered on time
- Lead and participate in design reviews with internal engineers and external partners
- Conceptual Design, PDR, CDR
- Develop and document detailed engineering requirements, test plans and reports as needed
- Independently design and deliver complex subassemblies from concept through production
- Partner with Product and Industrial Design teams to balance engineering constraints with customer-facing product experience
Requirements
- 5+ years of relevant industry experience in consumer products, appliances, or electro-mechanical systems
- Proficiency with CAD tools (OnShape experience preferred; PDM or PLM experience preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience) with strong fundamentals in statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics/dynamics
- Proven experience with a range of manufacturing processes (sheet metal, CNC machining, plastics, welding, die-casting, etc.)
- Demonstrated expertise in Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and mechanism design
- Experience collaborating with industrial designers and human factors teams to deliver consumer-grade user experiences
- Hands-on prototyping and lab testing skills
- Strong communicator and collaborator, comfortable working across cross-functional teams
- Self-starter and operates with urgency
- Takes ownership and embraces accountability with the ability to manage tasks with minimal supervision
