About the role

  • Structures Engineer delivering engineering designs and solutions for Babcock's submarine projects. Working on critical defense sector projects while providing mentorship and developing skills in structural engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Applies engineering concepts and theories to deliver the development of designs, calculations and technical solutions for Babcock products and services across the Engineering Product Lifecycle
  • Works independently with occasional supervision, seeking guidance for complex situations
  • Develops learning, skills and experience within discipline/domain
  • Provides mentoring to others
  • Supports the Royal Navy Submarine Fleet across Structures, Naval Architecture, Seamanship, Outfitting, and Design Change disciplines
  • Works on a wide range of projects involving submarine structures across the defence sector
  • Conducts structural assessments using hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis
  • Involves in design and assessment for explosive shock survivability
  • Manages and assesses structural defects
  • Engages in structural safety certification and support to future platform projects

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in a STEM discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • Interest in structural engineering
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • A willingness to learn and develop your technical expertise
