About the role

  • Land-Use Policy Analyst at Alberta Environmental and Protected Areas. Conducting research and collaboration to develop evidence-based policies for land-use and biodiversity management.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and analysis to inform policy development, including preparing briefing materials, policy options and recommendations that support evidence‑informed decision‑making.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and maintenance of legislation, regulations, policies, and tools that support conservation of biodiversity and land-use outcomes.
  • Coordinate components of complex policy initiatives using effective project management approaches.
  • Work collaboratively with internal partners, other ministries, Indigenous communities, municipal governments, industry stakeholders, and environmental organizations to gather perspectives and build informed policy solutions.
  • Support engagement, communication, training, and activities to help staff and stakeholders understand new or amended policies, legislation and regulatory tools.
  • Monitor emerging issues, trends, and opportunities related to biodiversity conservation, land‑use planning and environmental management to inform policy development.
  • Prepare clear, concise written materials and presentations for a variety of audiences including senior leadership and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • University graduation with a focus on Natural Resources, Environmental Sciences, Forestry, Agriculture, Land Management or related fields.
  • Minimum Four (4) years of related experience in related experience in land‑use policy development, natural resource management, or multi‑stakeholder engagement
  • A valid Class 5 drivers license is also required.
  • Understanding of Government of Alberta policy and decision-making processes, including experience supporting the development or amendment of legislation, regulation, strategies, or other high-level policy instruments.
  • Experience developing policy through collaboration and integration across ministries or organizations.
  • Technical or scientific understanding of environmental issues related to biodiversity, including cumulative effects and approaches to managing human footprint.
