About the role
- Data Solutions Analyst designing enterprise data systems for the Alberta Office of Statistics and Information. Building data pipelines, ensuring data quality, and supporting policy decisions across government.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines to support growing data volume and complexity
- Develop and maintain ETL/ELT processes and API integrations
- Clean, structure, and integrate data from multiple internal and external sources into the OSI data warehouse
- Maintain metadata and ensure data quality, integrity, and accessibility
- Document data processes and workflows for audit, continuity, and knowledge sharing
- Implement and oversee data security controls to protect sensitive government information
- Administer OSI’s secure data analysis lab, including access controls and audit processes
- Manage data-sharing agreements and ensure compliance with privacy and security requirements
- Build data tools, reports, and visualizations that support policy, program, and resource decisions
- Support data scientists and analysts by enabling efficient access to clean, well-structured data
- Deploy analytical models into production environments and monitor performance
- Enhance OSI’s website with interactive data products and visual tools
- Act as a subject matter expert on data infrastructure and data availability
- Work with internal and external partners to support data needs and resolve technical issues
- Represent OSI on cross-ministry data initiatives and infrastructure projects
Requirements
- A university degree in computer science, Information Technology, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field plus a minimum 4 years of experience working with SQL (advanced SQL required; NoSQL is an asset).
- Hands-on experience with data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and data warehousing
- Hands-on experience with SQL Server, including T-SQL, SSIS, SQL Server Agent, and SSAS Tabular model
- Experience working with big data platforms
- Experience working with large, complex, and unstructured datasets
- Experience using visualization tools such as Power BI
- Strong understanding of data modeling, data integration, and metadata management
- Proven ability to work with business users to define data needs
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
