About the role
- Vice President, Technical Accounting overseeing compliance with GAAP, providing guidance on complex accounting issues, and leading reporting processes.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the application of technical accounting standards and ensure compliance with GAAP and other applicable regulations
- Provide guidance on complex accounting issues, including revenue recognition, lease accounting, and financial instruments
- Lead the implementation of new accounting standards and ensure the organization is prepared for changes in accounting regulations
- Manage the preparation and review of all external financial reports, including quarterly and annual reports (10-Q, 10-K), ensuring accuracy and compliance with SEC requirements
- Collaborate with internal and external auditors to ensure timely and accurate filings
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust internal control processes to ensure the integrity of financial reporting
- Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development
- Partner with senior leadership to provide technical accounting insights and support strategic financial planning initiatives
- Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors, regulators, and other stakeholders on technical accounting and reporting matters
- Stay abreast of industry trends and changes in accounting standards to ensure the company remains compliant and competitive
- Lead and participate in special projects and initiatives as required, providing technical accounting expertise and support.
Requirements
- B.S. in Accounting + CPA
- MBA preferred
- 15+ years of progressive experience in accounting and finance
- Expertise in technical accounting and internal control
- Demonstrated experience in SEC reporting and SOX compliance
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Insurance and/or health care industry experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment with tight deadlines.
