- Staff or Senior Staff Attorney managing Workers’ Compensation cases, providing legal strategies and support for clients. Collaborating with claims partners in a remote and inclusive work environment.
Responsibilities
- Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive research, and develop well-reasoned legal strategies.
- Independently create and present defense strategies on behalf of clients, preparing complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, petitions for reconsideration, and trial briefs.
- Collaborate with Claims Partners to achieve optimal outcomes for Hartford insureds.
- Provide timely and effective communication, legal advice, and support to clients, maintaining professional diplomacy in interactions with courts, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel.
- Facilitate the prompt and efficient resolution of cases and independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence in trials, hearings, arbitrations, and alternative dispute resolution proceedings.
- Research, draft, file, and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts.
- Participate in team huddles, conduct in-house training for junior associates and claims partners, and engage in claims file reviews.
- Attend continuing legal education seminars.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of legal practice experience handling complex Workers’ Compensation cases.
- JD from accredited law school and license to practice in the state of California.
- Trial experience is preferred.
- Positive minded and collaborative team-player attitude.
- Strong legal research and writing skills.
- Solid MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook).
- Lexis Nexis experience is a plus!
- Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required.
- Minimum of 5 years of legal practice experience handling complex/life pension Workers’ Compensation cases for Senior Staff Attorney candidates.
