Staff or Senior Staff Attorney managing Workers’ Compensation cases, providing legal strategies and support for clients. Collaborating with claims partners in a remote and inclusive work environment.
Responsibilities
Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive research, and develop well-reasoned legal strategies.
Independently create and present defense strategies on behalf of clients, preparing complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, petitions for reconsideration, and trial briefs.
Collaborate with Claims Partners to achieve optimal outcomes for Hartford insureds.
Provide timely and effective communication, legal advice, and support to clients, maintaining professional diplomacy in interactions with courts, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel.
Facilitate the prompt and efficient resolution of cases and independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence in trials, hearings, arbitrations, and alternative dispute resolution proceedings.
Research, draft, file, and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts.
Participate in team huddles, conduct in-house training for junior associates and claims partners, and engage in claims file reviews.
Attend continuing legal education seminars.
Requirements
Minimum of 3 years of legal practice experience handling complex Workers’ Compensation cases.
JD from accredited law school and license to practice in the state of California.
Trial experience is preferred.
Positive minded and collaborative team-player attitude.
Strong legal research and writing skills.
Solid MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook).
Lexis Nexis experience is a plus!
Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required.
Minimum of 5 years of legal practice experience handling complex/life pension Workers’ Compensation cases for Senior Staff Attorney candidates.
