About the role

  • Working with all parts of the Travelers Europe businesses in connection with insurance and reinsurance matters.
  • Building strong relationships with stakeholders across the business and promoting the Legal team as a valued and accessible resource.
  • Supporting the legal team in delivering legal strategy and frameworks for managing legal risk.
  • Providing clear, practical legal advice to various functional areas within Travelers Europe, including but not limited to Compliance, Risk, Facilities management, Distribution, Finance, Marketing, Claims, IT and Operations.
  • Advising on delegated insurance arrangements and distribution deals.
  • Advising on FCA and PRA regulatory matters.
  • Drafting, amending and negotiating legal documents and contracts including commercial contracts, insurance agreements, TOBAs, supply/vendor agreements, consultancy agreements and service agreements.
  • Identifying and mitigating legal risk in various parts of the business; advising on, implementing and where appropriate, managing various internal controls.
  • Instructing and supervising external law firms as appropriate.
  • Researching legal precedents and principles and advising accordingly.
  • Providing general support to the Travelers enterprise working collaboratively with other members of the Travelers legal teams worldwide.
  • Maintaining awareness of legal environment through reading of legal publications, on-line resources, and attendance at seminars and conferences.
  • Assist in training on legal and regulatory topics.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum 4+ years PQE in insurance law either in-house or from private practice.
  • Experience of Prudential Regulation Authority /Financial Conduct Authority and other regulatory authorities.
  • General industry and regulatory knowledge is preferred.
  • General experience of advising general insurance underwriters and/or claims personnel is preferred.
  • General knowledge and understanding of the Lloyd's and London company markets.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to communicate effectively with the business at all levels, including senior management.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Building strong internal and external client relationships.
  • Effective use of technology and automation.
  • A team player.
  • Unquestionable integrity.
  • Awareness of legal developments affecting Travelers Europe.
  • Admitted to Practice in England and Wales.
