About the role

  • Ensure timely and accurate compliance with Maltese direct and indirect tax regulations, including VAT, income tax, and other applicable taxes; Monitor tax filings, payments, and reporting obligations for Maltese entities; Collaborate with internal teams and external tax advisors to ensure compliance with Maltese tax laws; Review and validate tax returns prepared by external providers to ensure accuracy and adherence to local legislation; Assist in analyzing tax implications for new business initiatives or transactions within Malta; Monitor changes in Maltese tax laws and assess their impact on the company’s operations; Extract and analyze data from business systems to prepare accurate tax reports, performing quality control checks; Continuously evaluate and enhance tax compliance processes by implementing new controls and procedures; Provide clear and accurate guidance on tax-related inquiries from internal teams and external stakeholders; Respond to tax audits and inquiries, ensuring timely and effective communication with authorities.

Requirements

  • BSc in Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration
  • MSc in Economics or Taxation is a plus
  • Professional tax certifications (e.g., CTA, ACA) are advantageous
  • 4-7 years of professional experience in taxation, preferably with a focus on Maltese direct and indirect taxes
  • Experience in a multinational organization or audit/consulting firm is highly desirable
  • Strong knowledge of Maltese VAT and income tax legislation
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and familiarity with ERP systems
  • Understanding of financial accounting principles; IFRS knowledge is a plus
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English; knowledge of Maltese or other languages is an advantage
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities with a proactive problem-solving mindset
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work
  • Self-motivated, with a proactive and independent approach to tasks
  • A team player with strong interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating in a multicultural and cross-functional environment
