About the role

  • Drive delivery of personal tax advisory work, including writing reports and leading discussions with prospective and existing clients.
  • Oversee and manage a team of junior staff responsible for day-to-day delivery of private client services across a diverse portfolio of individual clients.
  • Act as key point of contact for high net-worth clients and professional advisors; convey complex tax technical information to non-experts.
  • Manage a portfolio of clients with multiple sources of earned and investment income and deal with one-off advisory and compliance assignments.
  • Deal with partnerships, high net worth individuals, a wide range of capital gains tax issues, and oversee UK tax return filing processes.
  • Monitor team progress against targets, provide feedback, input into staff appraisals, and encourage personal development of team members.
  • Make suggestions and implement changes to improve internal processes and efficiencies; support business building and client pitching.

Requirements

  • CTA Qualified, or other professional qualification with demonstrable relevant experience.
  • Advanced understanding of core private client tax issues, including personal tax anti-avoidance legislation.
  • Confidently interacts with HMRC regarding complex issues on behalf of clients.
  • Delivers advice confidently in transactional, litigious, or confrontational circumstances.
  • Reporting on tax and other implications of incorporation of self-employment and businesses.
  • Experience in Self-Assessment and preparation of tax computations.
  • Demonstrable experience of report writing and ad hoc advisory work.
  • Previous supervisory and management experience including reviewing the work of others.
  • Planning for mitigation of Inheritance Tax including use of trusts and tax effect of lifetime transfers.
  • Dealing with enquiries into all aspects of direct taxation including experience of settlement and penalty negotiation.
  • UK Trusts and Estates and experience of UK trust account preparation and review is desirable.
  • Experience advising private clients, proprietors of owner managed businesses, non-UK domiciled and non-resident clients.
  • Experience with property owning clients using corporate vehicles and trusts.
