About the role
- Develop and implement direct tax strategies aligned with business and financial objectives
- Provide expert advice on corporate tax, capital gains tax, transfer pricing, withholding taxes, tax treaties, and other direct tax matters
- Guide tax planning, compliance, and risk management initiatives
- Oversee the preparation, review, and filing of direct tax returns, ensuring accuracy and adherence to regulations
- Advise on tax implications for mergers, acquisitions, reorganisations, and other corporate transactions
- Serve as the main point of contact for senior management, tax authorities, auditors, and external advisors
- Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders and external clients
- Represent the firm in tax audits, disputes, and negotiations with authorities
- Lead, mentor, and grow the direct tax advisory team
- Identify and mitigate tax risks through proactive advisory and compliance measures
- Ensure robust tax governance and internal controls
- Prepare reports and presentations for senior management and boards on tax risks, opportunities, and compliance
Requirements
- Chartered Accountant (CA), CPA, or equivalent taxation qualification
- 2+ years of direct tax advisory experience in Malta
- Proven experience leading and mentoring a team
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken
- In-depth knowledge of direct tax laws, regulations, and best practices
- Experience with multinational companies and cross-border tax issues is a plus
- Strong track record in managing complex tax projects, audits, and disputes
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities efficiently
- Proficiency in tax software and MS Office
- Analytical and strategic thinker with a keen eye for detail and problem-solving skills
