About the role

  • Administer all aspects of Microsoft SQL Server, including Replication, Backup/Restore, Capacity Planning, Reporting Services, Analysis Services, and Integration Services.
  • Migrate databases from SQL Server 2012 to SQL Server 2016.
  • Provide systems administration support: planning, execution, testing, installations, and configurations of new hardware and software.
  • Recommend and implement SQL performance monitoring and tuning solutions.
  • Implement, deploy, and support Microsoft technologies and web services.
  • Support virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V) and create/configure virtual machines.
  • Perform backups of web, application, and database servers (daily incremental and weekly full backups) according to policies.
  • Perform database activities such as monitoring, space management, and extended-hours support when required.
  • Collaborate on government IT projects and contribute to process documentation and presentations.

Requirements

  • Administering Microsoft SQL Server including Replication, Backup/Restore procedures, Capacity Planning, Reporting Services, Analysis Services, and Integration Services.
  • Migrating databases from SQL Server 2012 to SQL Server 2016.
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience related directly to SQL Server Database Administration.
  • Providing basic systems administration support including planning, execution, testing, installations, and configurations of new hardware and software.
  • Recommending/implementing solutions for SQL performance monitoring and tuning.
  • Implementing, deploying, and/or supporting Microsoft Technologies such as Visual Studio Framework, VB.NET, ASP.NET and Web Services.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V, creating and configuring virtual machines.
  • Experience and knowledge related to source/change control, bug tracking, SDLC, and integration of Relational Databases.
  • Ability to appropriately handle confidential and/or sensitive materials.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments concurrently and to document, explain, and present tasks and processes.
  • Ideally: Experience implementing and maintaining data warehouses; Experience with AWS RDS for PostgreSQL; Experience working in cloud environments such as Azure and/or AWS; Prior professional services or federal consulting experience.
