About the role

  • Lead bid teams to ensure successful bid production and delivery for defence and related sectors
  • Bring structure, clarity and governance to the bid process
  • Shape solutions to provide compelling offers to customers
  • Manage relationships with internal and external UK and international customers
  • Manage multi-disciplinary bid teams to deliver high-quality, business-winning proposals
  • Apply commercial awareness and business acumen to maximise Thales’ position to secure new business
  • Manage preparation of prequalification response submissions to secure invitations to bid
  • Lead Bid Kick-Off meetings, provide bid management direction and engagement with the Bid Team
  • Manage creation of bid deliverables, ensure review and governance, and produce high-quality proposals
  • Provide rigour to change control, commercial awareness and stakeholder management

Requirements

  • Proven track record of managing and delivering successful bids in contexts relevant to Thales: defence, heavy engineering (aerospace, rail, energy, marine), construction, or IT infrastructure backgrounds
  • Experience managing large, complex bids
  • Full business/bid lifecycle management, including capture, qualification and developing capture plans and winning strategies
  • Experience of working across boundaries, including knowledge of commercial management and finance functions
  • A working knowledge of industry standard approaches to bid management (such as Shipley Capture Bench)
  • Ability to successfully manage a bid team and to drive solutions to successful conclusion
  • Negotiation and stakeholder management skills with customers, partners, suppliers and internal business areas
  • Security Clearance (SC) required - successful applicant must undergo, achieve and maintain SC prior to commencing employment
  • Eligibility note for SC: generally need to have resided in the UK for the last 5 years (in some circumstances minimum 3 years may be accepted with additional checks)
  • In line with Baseline Security requirements, ability to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment/education history for up to three years
  • Positive attitude, excellent interpersonal and motivational skills
