About the role

  • Provide technical leadership and support to a team of engineers and designers to develop protection, control, and metering system designs for electrical substations (12 kV–240 kV) from concept through construction and commissioning
  • Serve as Technical Lead on assigned projects: develop one-lines, schematics, AC/DC and three-line diagrams, panel layouts and wiring diagrams
  • Perform protection coordination studies using ETAP/SKM and configure protection relays, SEL RTAC, GE RTU, RTU/HMI systems and Ethernet switch configuration
  • Design SCADA, RTU and HMI systems and prepare associated deliverables
  • Review and prepare engineering drawings, specifications, construction and outage staging plans, and inspection/testing procedures
  • Support construction and commissioning activities, including factory inspections and client technical reviews
  • Participate in Safety-by-Design and constructability review meetings and prepare conceptual/feasibility/definition phase scopes and estimates
  • Liaise with clients at the discipline level on technical matters and mentor junior engineers

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years’ Protection & Control engineering experience, including SCADA and metering systems
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with APEGA (or eligible)
  • Proficiency with relay setting and protection tools such as ETAP, SKM PowerTools, EasyPower, ASPEN, CAPE, and experience with SEL and GE relay programming tools
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Proven ability to lead technical teams and deliver projects in a fast-paced environment
  • 3–4 years’ experience performing protection coordination studies and relay settings for high-voltage utility transmission systems (asset)
  • Familiarity with substation protection & control maintenance and operational practices (asset)
  • Experience executing EPC projects (asset)
