Liaising with other engineers/technicians to ensure updates to technical standards are maintained and disseminated to the team.
Ensure that design briefs are completed satisfactorily.
Promote and incorporate sustainable design wherever possible.
Promote and improve inter-discipline working with other disciplines.
Monitor emerging legislation and engineering standards relating to highways design and ensure their implementation.
Carry out independent and multi-disciplinary design reviews.
Supervise the preparation of contract documents.
Prepares cost and man-hour estimates, job budgets and schedules.
Prepare Technical and Commercial Proposals.
Liaise with clients, Authorities, contractors, suppliers, sub contractors and other design engineers.
Provide technical input and supervise technical input of others within the highways discipline.
Operate to the Quality Assurance system, quality control and document management in line with current policy.
Identify and meet effectively the requirements and expectations of clients.
Requirements
Degree in Civil Engineering.
Similar experience of minimum 15 years working in a design consultancy, with experience of concept, scheme and detail design across a range of sectors.
Experience with design of junctions, roundabouts and grade separated interchanges.
Experience of working to QA procedures.
Membership of a Professional Engineering Institution.
Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English, able to inspire, influence and negotiate.
In depth and up to date knowledge of Highways Design.
Technical input into Optioneering, scoping, feasibility studies, outline and detailed design projects.
Experienced in design risk assessments and familiar with relevant HSE legislation.
Knowledge of BIM, Civil 3d and autocad.
Good understanding of the regional and international standards related to highways design.
A good understanding of quality assurance, safety, environmental and sustainability.
Ability to make decisions, act on own initiative and operate in a pro-active way.
A degree of financial awareness and an ability to develop this skill further as required.
Ability to manage projects and build/maintain client and team relationships.
Effective team worker, contributing to the team and wider objectives.
Excellent report writing skills, experience of making presentations and attending meetings with clients.
Be able to logically analyse problems from first principles to determine solutions.
Able to manage own workload and assist more junior members of the team.
