Serve as the Lead Technical Authority: Define and author the engineering specifications for 12V and 48V DC/DC converters. Lead technical design reviews, conduct Worst Case Circuit Analysis (WCCA), and ensure EMC compliance for your component.
Drive Product Development from Concept to Launch: Manage all engineering deliverables through Ford’s Global Product Development System (GPDS). You will be responsible for component releases, design transmittals, and securing final sign-off, ensuring your component is ready for production.
Manage and Steer Tier 1 Supplier Partnerships: Lead a cross-functional team (Purchasing, Finance, Engineering) to select and manage our global supplier partners. You will be the primary engineering contact, driving their development timeline and ensuring technical excellence.
Champion Component Quality and Safety: Oversee the entire validation process, including the Design Verification Plan (DVP) and prototype testing. You will lead the creation of Failure Mode Analysis (FMA) documentation and ensure all designs meet stringent ISO 26262 Automotive Functional Safety requirements.
Requirements
**You'll have… **
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field.
- 3 years of professional experience in low-voltage power electronics design, development, and testing within a product development environment.
- Proven ability to apply fundamental power electronics equations to analyze and validate DC/DC converter designs. This must include hands-on experience calculating MOSFET switching and conduction losses, sizing magnetic and capacitive components based on ripple and energy storage requirements, and modeling overall power efficiency to critique a supplier's circuit design.
- Demonstrated experience applying ISO 26262 automotive functional safety requirements to a product or system.
- Hands-on experience performing the core calculations for power converter design and analysis. This includes evaluating MOSFETs based on Rds(on) and gate charge, sizing inductors to meet ripple current targets, selecting output capacitors for transient response, and calculating total power loss to predict thermal performance.
**Even better, you may have…**
- A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Electronics.
- Direct, hands-on experience designing or analyzing DC/DC converter topologies.
- Proficiency with modeling and simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink.
- Experience using vehicle network tools like Vector CANalyzer or Intrepid Control Systems tools to analyze CAN/LIN data.
- Familiarity with Ford-specific engineering systems and processes (e.g., WERS, FEDEBOM, Teamcenter).
- A deep understanding of automotive quality processes like APQP and FMEA
