About the role

  • Support daily communications work: content creation for social media channels, fitting content for different channels, video editing, newsletter and press releases, and researching international developments about direct and participatory democracy.
  • Coordinate the International Democracy Community platform: map and contact activists, manage backend, support profile creation, send regular newsletters, and collect/edit journalistic inputs.
  • Organise webinars on topics related to democracy activism.
  • Assist in project implementation: support daily operations, coordinate activities with project partners, and ensure alignment on deadlines and deliverables.
  • Partner coordination and relationship management with project partners.
  • Support continuous evaluation & reporting: monitor progress, compile data, and help prepare and submit reports to the EU and other bodies.
  • Provide general team assistance: prepare documents, coordinate meetings, contribute to administrative tasks and ongoing projects.
  • Participate in required workshops, seminars, German language course and a 5-day political seminar as part of the weltwärts volunteering programme.

Requirements

  • Experience in PR, communications, content creation for social media, and video editing.
  • Experience coordinating online communities/platforms and managing platform backend.
  • Experience in research and communicating about international developments around direct and participatory democracy.
  • Experience or willingness to organise webinars and send out regular newsletters.
  • Experience supporting project implementation, partner coordination, and general project assistance.
  • Experience with monitoring, evaluation and compiling reports for funders (e.g. EU) preferred.
  • Ability to provide general team assistance (prepare documents, coordinate meetings, administrative tasks).
  • Willingness to attend workshops, seminars and a German language course; 12-month commitment starting March 2025.
  • Willingness to relocate to Germany for the duration of the internship/volunteering programme.

  • 5-day compulsory political seminar organised by the Federal Volunteering Service.
  • Leave of absence of 2 hours per week to take up further voluntary local activities in Cologne.
