About the role
- Responsible for all direct reports HR issues and guidance and coordinating recruitment, monitoring & development of team members drawing office skills
- Creation of training content and presentations in line with development programme for each team member; provide guidance and support in areas of expertise
- Collaborate with other section heads regarding workload programmes to ensure KPIs are maintained
- Ensure timely delivery of high-quality work to clients and achieve high client satisfaction
- Monitor, create and approve drawing office process; prepare and review drawing documentation and processes
- Ensure team prioritise health, safety, quality, and environmental standards and adherence to externally audited QA systems
- Oversee maintenance and upkeep of drawing office databases and maintain an auditable design/design change system to facilitate BS EN 9001 accreditation
- Conduct spot checks on basic and detailed engineering drawings during approval process
- Keep drawing office manager, project staff and clients updated on progress and any issues
- Contribute recommendations and deliver continuous improvement initiatives relating to drawing office functions and deliverables
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge in one or more of the following areas at voltages ranging from LV to 400kV: Civil/Plant Layouts Design - Drawing Production; Cable Route Design - Drawing Production; Overhead Lines Design - Drawing Production; Electrical Protection and Control – Drawing Production
- In-depth understanding of engineering design principles and health & safety requirements
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with individuals, departments, and businesses
- Proficient in Autodesk products including AutoCAD 2020, Vault, ACC, ProjectWise, Revit, Raster Design 2020, and the MS Office suite
- Excellent organisational abilities; ability to plan and manage conflicting requirements to meet challenging deadlines
- Capability to investigate and comprehend detailed civil and substation design aspects of transmission/distribution network design or other energy-related assets
- Experience contributing continuous improvement initiatives relating to drawing office functions and deliverables
- Proven people management and leadership skills; responsibility for HR issues and team development
- HNC / HND in Civil / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering OR proven engineering experience within Transmission Substation Design - Drawing Office
- Understanding of Engineering Design drawing production in chosen field
- Working knowledge of drawing standards and procedures and maintaining auditable design/change system to facilitate BS EN 9001 accreditation
- Valid UK driving licence
