About the role

  • Assess home damage, verify that the damage is storm related, provide repair estimates, and develop repair plans using skilled volunteer labor and/or local contractors.
  • Coordinate with the Resource Coordinator for donated materials, volunteer labor, and contractors to manage repair projects and volunteer teams.
  • Conduct project inspections and provide Scope of Work and itemized estimates for labor and materials.
  • Walk homeowners through the proper permit process.
  • Implement city and state-approved hazard mitigation measures.
  • Supervise the work of all volunteers and contractors ensuring safety and quality workmanship.
  • Maintain accurate records of construction progress and financial accounts for each project.

Requirements

  • current background check and negative and/or drug test prior to hiring
  • available to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evening and weekend hours to meet Survivor availability
  • able to maintain ethical conduct in accordance with organizational policy

  • computer literate, with proficient skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and ability to learn new and/or customized software
  • knowledge and experience in construction trades, especially residential construction
  • project management experience
  • possess strong communications skills with ability to guide volunteer teams
  • ability to build vendor relations
  • organized and prepared for meetings, briefings, and conversations with clients, staff and external partners
  • ability to meet reporting deadlines
  • possess no outside business interest that may conflict with the client or the organization’s goals and objectives
  • demonstrate helpful inter-personal skills, such as: awareness of the impact of the disaster on the community, the family and the individual
  • effective listening and interviewing skills
  • cultural competence relative to the population served
  • compassionate and sensitive to the needs and concerns of individuals and families in crisis
  • knowledge of and able to use Xactimate (Verisk) software
  • current working knowledge of local building codes and ordinances
