About the role

  • Develop, implement, and manage communication strategies, messaging, and campaigns in alignment with OHSEPR goals and priorities.
  • Draft and edit a wide range of communication products, including press releases, talking points, newsletters, social media content, fact sheets, reports, and website copy.
  • Provide strategic counsel to leadership on communications opportunities, risks, and issues.
  • Support internal communications to improve engagement, collaboration, and information sharing across OHSEPR teams.
  • Coordinate with ACF’s Office of Communications and other federal partners to ensure consistent messaging and brand alignment.
  • Prepare briefings, presentations, and materials for senior leaders and stakeholders.
  • Assist in the development and execution of public-facing campaigns to promote emergency preparedness and response efforts.
  • Track communications metrics and prepare reports to assess impact and reach.
  • Provide event communications support for conferences, workshops, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Travel (5–10%) to support field events, trainings, or emergency response efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Public Health, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in communications, public affairs, or a related role (federal or public health environment preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing communication strategies and products.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to distill complex information into clear, concise, and compelling messages.
  • Experience with digital platforms (e.g., social media, website management, newsletters).
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in Communications, Public Affairs, Public Health, or related field.
  • Experience supporting HHS, ACF, or other federal emergency preparedness and response initiatives.
  • Knowledge of federal communications policies and clearance processes.
  • Familiarity with crisis communications and risk messaging.
  • Project management experience, including supporting large-scale communications initiatives.
