About the role

  • Reports to the Executive Director (or Director) of Medical Communications within WW Medical Neuroscience, Global Medical Affairs
  • Responsible for the strategy and execution of Neurodegeneration medical communication plans
  • Ensure disclosure of the science and health economic value of BMS products and research data to inform Healthcare Providers, Patients, and Payers in accordance with local regulations
  • Establish clear, viable and compelling Medical Communications strategy aligned with medical vision, strategy and objectives
  • Own pull-through and execution of the Scientific Narrative, development & execution of functionally integrated publication plan, content plan, and application to the Scientific Communication Platform (SCP)
  • Lead development of medical communications and ensure timely journal submissions, publications, congress presentations, and delivery of internal and external scientific content
  • Manage Medical Communications budget and allocation of funds and resources to highest business priorities
  • Serve as subject matter expert to BMS internal audiences related to communication landscape, HCP preferences, publication and scientific content planning, and data disclosure/dissemination
  • Represent BMS scientific communications to external investigators, key authors, and journal editors
  • Lead internal process improvements and transformation efforts to align with Good Publication Practices and industry standards
  • Provide oversight to the team for development and execution of functionally integrated medical communications plans and adjust plans based on clinical trial results/milestones
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders across the medical matrix and with Scientific Communications & Engagement teams
  • Partner externally with 3rd party vendors to balance internal and external execution of work
  • Foster relationships with academic & clinical experts, publishers, medical associations and other key stakeholders
  • Establish and communicate clear metrics aligned to meeting customer needs and demonstrating desired outcomes

Requirements

  • Advanced scientific degree preferred (PharmD, PhD or MD)
  • 7-10 years of Pharmaceutical/Healthcare industry experience with a focus on medical communications
  • Experience in both local country & global preferred
  • Experience of leading a large team or multiple teams; demonstrated strength in leading teams to high performance
  • Demonstrated ability to lead strategically, drive performance, build alignment, inform, negotiate, and collaborate
  • Proven ability to work in an ambiguous environment and develop teams with a focus on quick deliverables
  • Experience leading cross-functional, cross-cultural project teams across matrix, multiple markets, and global geographies
  • Demonstrated success driving optimal business results in a large complex corporate environment with multiple priorities and tight timelines
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven experience establishing strategic direction for teams and achieving objectives
  • Experience with change leadership
  • Experience leading medical communications across all phases of drug development and commercialization
  • Ability to analyze and interpret clinical trial data
  • Ability to influence and negotiate and establish strong stakeholder relationships
  • Ability to travel
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical/healthcare industry and regulated environments (compliance, transparency, conflict-of-interest)
  • In-depth knowledge of Good Publication Practices and guidance (GPP, ICMJE), Sunshine Act, Pharma Code of Conduct, and related guidance
  • Certified Medical Publication Professional (CMPP) and ISMPP membership highly desired
  • Understanding of clinical trial design, statistical methods, and clinical trial data reporting requirements
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with publication management tool (DataVision)
