About the role
- Data Security Intern handling data security issues and mentoring on data protection strategies at Zoox. Engaging with InfoSec teams to improve data management and security protocols.
Responsibilities
- Assist in mapping and creating Data Flow Diagrams (DFDs) to visually represent how customer data is captured, processed, stored, and shared across various applications, systems, and vendors.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate data security risks.
- Work closely within the InfoSec team to address security concerns and help with incident response.
- Support the development and implementation of data protection strategies and initiatives.
- Review and improve InfoSec controls to ensure they are up to date and fully applied.
- Query databases and manipulate data to prepare datasets for analysis, focusing on human behavior.
- Assist in creating reports, charts, and graphs to present findings and insights on data flows to stakeholders.
- Participate in meetings and contribute to discussions on data security issues and solutions.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Information Security, or related field
- Basic understanding of privacy, data management principles, and database concepts.
- Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles, including threat modeling, application security testing, and secure software development practices.
- A passion for computers and security.
- Desire to learn and have a strong sense of curiosity.
- Able to commit to a 12-week internship beginning in May or June of 2026, and are available full-time (M-F 9am - 5 pm).
- Ability to relocate to the Bay Area, California for the duration of the internship.
