About the role

  • Associate Actuarial Research Analyst at WCIRB compiling actuarial datasets and conducting analyses. Emphasizing collaborative projects while providing support to the Vice President, Research.

Responsibilities

  • Compiles data sets for research projects using R.
  • Downloads data from data warehouses and compiles data from other sources for analysis in spreadsheets (such as Excel) or statistical or specialized software (such as R).
  • Compiles and maintains databases from internal and external sources and updates regularly published reports and analyses.
  • Proofs and audits data for accuracy, reasonableness, and suitability.
  • Identifies outliers and other anomalous patterns and brings these to the attention of the Vice President, Research.
  • Performs more complex research, statistical and other analyses under guidance of the Vice President, Research.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree, preferably in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, data science, economics or a related field
  • Completion of at least one Casualty Actuarial Society examination or comparable educational experience
  • At least one year of experience in an office environment or a prior Actuarial internship preferred
  • Proficiency in programming with SQL, R or Python
  • Proficiency in at least two of the following three areas: applied statistics, economics and finance (beyond a college sophomore level), or programming (in a language such as R, Python or C++)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent oral and written English skills including the ability to understand complex and nuanced instructions in preparing research databases
  • Ability to clearly communicate findings, issues, and recommendations to co-workers.
  • Strong listening and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively on projects.
  • Able to work independently with occasional supervision.
