About the role

  • Grant Accountant at United Way ensuring compliance for federal, state, and private grants. Overseeing budgets and reporting for non-profit funding with collaborative team efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure grant compliance for United Way and funded subcontractors across federal, state, city, and private grants.
  • Manage grant reporting deadlines and prepare accurate financial reports for grantors and internal stakeholders.
  • Develop and monitor grant budgets, tracking spending status and identifying variances.
  • Maintain systems for submitting and monitoring funding and reimbursement requests to grantors and subcontractors.
  • Record and reconcile grant-related transactions in accounting systems to ensure accuracy and audit readiness.
  • Work directly with grant program managers to resolve issues related to grant budgets, spending, and compliance.
  • Support the Finance Grants Manager and Controller with financial reporting and audit preparation.
  • Contribute to the improvement of grant accounting processes and documentation.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field or four or more years experience as a grant accountant.
  • 2 - 3 years of professional experience in non-profit accounting is required.
  • Minimum of one year experience with fiscal monitoring of grant contracts, preferably with state or federal grants or contracts.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and Governmental Accounting Standards.
  • Knowledge of Texas state and federal grant regulations, including Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards.
  • An ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, solve problems, and bring a high level of initiative and self-direction to work.
  • An ability to maintain regular and effective communication with colleagues and funders.
  • Demonstrated experience with budget preparation, analysis, and financial reporting.
  • Willingness to function as an internal “service provider” to other staff.
  • Excellent electronic spreadsheet and word processing skills in a Windows/Microsoft environment.
  • An ability to work and meet deadlines in a cross-functional, fast-paced work environment.
