Data Engineer II at Travelers designing data solutions for insurance pricing. Collaborating with Data Science to enhance data readiness and reliability across pricing platforms.
Responsibilities
Own and deliver data pipeline development and ongoing support for Property and GL pricing use cases
Lead model implementation for Property and GL pricing models in partnership with Data Science and Actuarial teams
Build and serve as the GL data subject matter expert to support benchmarks, modernization initiatives, and future enhancements
Provide project leadership, planning, and execution across Property and GL data engineering initiatives
Execute complex data preparation activities, including exploration, cleansing, and transformation, with awareness of enterprise architecture, platforms, and downstream consumption patterns
Translate actuarial and data science requirements into scalable, production-ready data solutions
Adopt and embed MLOps practices across the model development and implementation lifecycle
Establish data quality controls, profiling, and monitoring for model implementation and ongoing performance
Present analysis and technical recommendations to influence data architecture and implementation decisions
Provide technical leadership through code reviews, design guidance, and mentoring within the team
Apply agile methodologies to plan, prioritize, and deliver work across concurrent initiatives
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in STEM related field or equivalent.
Eight years of related experience.
Experience with building, maintaining, and scaling data pipelines.
Strong interest in understanding business context and translating business needs into technical solutions.
Proficiency in SQL and Python programming languages.
Experience with AWS Cloud Platform.
Preferred qualifications include experience with model implementation in cloud environments, experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), particularly with Terraform, and a balanced skill-set with focus beyond traditional ETL processes.
Highly proficient use of tools, techniques, and manipulation including Cloud platforms, programming languages, and a full understanding of modern software engineering practices.
The ability to deliver work at a steady, predictable pace to achieve commitments, deliver complete solutions but release them in small batches, and identify and negotiate important tradeoffs.
Demonstrated track record of domain expertise including understanding technical concepts necessary and industry trends, and possess in-depth knowledge of immediate systems worked on and some knowledge of adjacent systems.
Strong problem solver who ensures systems are built with longevity and creates innovate ways to resolve issues.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work collaborate well with team members and business partners.
Ability to lead team members and help create a safe environment for others to learn and grow as engineers. and a proven track record of self-motivation in identifying opportunities and tracking team efforts.
