About the role

  • Analytics Product Engineer transforming data products for Travelers. Focused on data engineering, product ownership, and generating actionable insights from data.

Responsibilities

  • Define and prioritize the product backlog and roadmap for our Analytics Data Products, focusing on both expanding data product capabilities and continuously improving transformation pipelines and data models.
  • Act as the voice of business stakeholders and analytics consumers, ensuring their needs drive product evolution.
  • Measure delivery outcomes against business priorities and adjust the roadmap based on real results and shifting stakeholder needs.
  • Make critical trade-off decisions in collaboration with leadership to maximize value delivery.
  • Provide sign-off on engineering deliverables and maintain accountability for what gets built and whether it solves the problem.
  • Design and build data models and define architecture that is scalable, performant, and aligned to business consumption patterns, leveraging generative AI techniques.
  • Leverage a keen understanding of the data to uncover gaps, quality issues, and opportunities to enhance transformation pipelines and data product capabilities.
  • Partner with IT, Data Platform, and business stakeholder groups to develop and validate solutions that meet real-world business needs.
  • Make informed decisions on data design patterns to optimize for reliability and performance.
  • Build proof-of-concepts and prototypes for new data product capabilities before broader implementation, de-risking delivery and demonstrating feasibility.
  • Build and operationalize data transformation pipelines and analytical solutions using modern platform services, data engineering tools, and emerging GenAI capabilities.
  • Develop automation for repetitive data processes to improve reliability and reduce manual intervention.
  • Perform substantive pull request reviews, evaluating business logic correctness, potential bugs, performance implications, and adherence to team standards.
  • Implement comprehensive testing, data quality checks, business logic validation, reconciliation, and integration tests to ensure high-confidence data products.
  • Partner with IT and engineering teams to deploy, monitor, and operationalize solutions.
  • Gather and synthesize requirements from data providers and analytics consumers, translating business needs into clear technical specifications.
  • Document data lineage, upstream/downstream dependencies, and define acceptance criteria for deliverables.
  • Identify data gaps and quality issues, and validate solutions with stakeholders before and after delivery.
  • Scope work and communicate delivery timelines and risks proactively to avoid surprises.
  • Establish and evangelize best practices for data engineering, platform usage, and analytical development across teams.
  • Create clear documentation on which datasets to use for different analytical purposes and modeling needs.
  • Navigate governance processes and data controls to ensure compliant, well-classified data products.
  • Share insights and best practices across teams to ensure alignment and consistency in analytical approaches.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and communicate project status proactively across IT, Data Platform, and business groups.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer between engineering and business teams.
  • Flag risks and blockers early - before they land on someone else's desk.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM related field or equivalent.
  • Six years of related experience.
  • Proven experience in hands-on data engineering and product ownership.
  • Strong background in analytics engineering with proficiency in Python and SQL.
  • Demonstrated experience building and deploying scalable data pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS Cloud and Databricks.
  • Proficient use of tools, techniques, and manipulation including Cloud platforms, programming languages, and an understanding of software engineering practices.
  • The ability to deliver work at a steady, predictable pace to achieve commitments, decompose work assignments into small batch releases, and contribute to tradeoff and negotiation discussions.
  • Demonstrated track record of domain expertise including the ability to understand technical concepts and possess in-depth knowledge of immediate systems worked on.
  • Proven problem solving skills including debugging skills, allowing you to determine source of issues in unfamiliar code or systems and the ability to recognize and solve repetitive problems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with team members and business partners.
  • Intermediate leadership skills with a proven track record of self-motivation in identifying personal growth opportunities.
  • 2 additional years of software/data engineering experience.
