The Second Step is a community organization dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic violence. Since 1992, it has been providing essential services such as legal advocacy, safety planning, counseling, and housing support to adults, youth, and children in Greater Boston and MetroWest. The organization focuses on fostering safety, stability, and well-being for individuals affected by domestic violence through comprehensive intervention, education, and community engagement.

• Assist the Director of Prevention Education in outreach to assigned industries, businesses, schools, and community organizations to increase prevention education engagement and visibility
• Serve as an initial point of contact for assigned partners, providing information about The Second Step’s prevention education offerings and responding to inquiries in a timely and professional manner
• Support relationship-building with new and existing partners through follow-up communication, scheduling, and coordination
• Help identify new outreach opportunities aligned with program goals and community needs
• Manage and maintain the prevention education calendar, including scheduling workshops, coordinating facilitators, and tracking engagements
• Prepare for trainings and workshops by coordinating logistics, confirming locations or virtual platforms, and ensuring materials are ready
• Maintain inventory of prevention education materials; track usage and submit requests for re-ordering as needed
• Assist with data tracking and basic reporting related to outreach efforts, workshop delivery, and program growth
• Facilitate prevention education workshops for a variety of audiences, including adults, youth, professionals, and community members
• Deliver curriculum in a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and engaging manner
• Adapt facilitation style to meet the needs of diverse audiences while maintaining fidelity to approved curricula
• Support evaluation efforts by collecting participant feedback and reflecting on facilitation effectiveness
• Work collaboratively with the Director of Prevention Education and other staff to support department goals and initiatives
• Participate in team meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities
• Represent The Second Step professionally at community events, meetings, and outreach activities

Prevention Outreach Coordinator

• Provide full representation and limited assistance representation to clients as appropriate, including but not limited to abuse prevention order hearings and custody, divorce & child support matters in District Courts and Probate & Family Courts;
• Interview clients with a demonstrated ability to provide trauma informed legal services while gathering necessary facts and background information to workup and prepare a case;
• Engage in frequent courtroom litigation and advocacy, with a demonstrated ability to fully prepare and master case facts, written pleadings, and oral arguments efficiently and effectively under, at times, time sensitive and high-pressure circumstances;
• Provide legal advice, brief consultation, and/or preparation of legal pleadings on behalf of clients as well as targeted referrals to outside legal providers as appropriate;
• Provide information regarding criminal proceedings and processes to survivors of domestic violence;
• Ensure compliance with all Board of Bar Overseers (BBO) ethics standards, including confidentiality and ethical conflicts of interest;
• Collect and record all relevant program data daily using TSS’s case management system, including “billable hours”;
• Organize and/or present periodic legal trainings to TSS staff, volunteers, and/or outside agencies on various relevant legal topics;
• Prepare and/or present specialized community-wide trainings to both legal and non-legal professionals on domestic violence issues;
• Attend legal trainings to maintain up to date knowledge on domestic violence legal issues;
• Advance TSS Legal Services Program’s profile in the greater legal community by establishing and maintaining relationships with other legal practitioners, community agencies and governmental agencies;
• Participate in legal community collaborations such as policy groups, steering committees, focus groups and/or bar associations geared towards domestic violence law;
• Participate in legislative, administrative and other systemic advocacy designed to promote the interests of domestic violence survivors;
• Flexibility for very occasional evening work when necessary;
• Attends All Staff meeting and trainings;
• Represents TSS at community engagement and development events as needed;
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Staff Attorney

• Deliver interactive, trauma-informed presentations on domestic violence, healthy relationships, how to respond to disclosures, domestic violence and the workplace, and related topics for youth and adults
• Facilitate education sessions in diverse settings, including schools, housing programs, workplaces, health centers, and community spaces and businesses
• Assist with adapting and tailoring curriculum to meet the needs of specific populations or partner organizations
• Represent The Second Step at community tabling events, workshops, fairs, festivals, and trainings
• Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with schools, libraries, mutual aid groups, health providers, cultural organizations, and other community-based partners
• Identify opportunities for collaboration and deeper engagement (e.g., displays, evolving partnerships, shared campaigns)
• Create and maintain engaging outreach materials, handouts, and resource guides aligned with The Second Step’s messaging and brand
• Support the translation and cultural adaptation of materials into additional languages (e.g., Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole)
• Help organize and track physical outreach supplies (e.g., QR cards, banners, giveaways, brochures)
• Support the development and coordination of ongoing projects such as educational displays, library partnerships, and community-led awareness campaigns
• Help facilitate initiatives like the Safe Community Ambassadors Program and related volunteer outreach efforts
• Track attendance, feedback, and impact metrics using provided templates and systems
• Meet weekly with the Director of Prevention Education to plan, reflect, and strategize
• Contribute to brainstorming and piloting new engagement strategies
• Attend and participate in staff and team meetings and trainings
• Other duties as assigned by agency leadership
