About the role

  • Environment Strategy Project Manager at Suffolk County Council involved in decarbonisation of transport via Electric Vehicle infrastructure. Working closely with stakeholders to implement EV charging solutions in Suffolk.

Responsibilities

  • You will work as part of a small, dynamic team involved in decarbonising transport in Suffolk through the provision of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.
  • A typical day would see you working with our Chargepoint Operator to take forward installations in our county’s planning conservation areas; this would require you to review scheme proposals and coordinate feedback from internal colleagues.
  • You will also work with landowners such as Parish Councils and Village Halls to supply charge points at their car parks; you will need to be very good at explaining complex and often technical information in an understandable way, with presentation skills too.
  • Your ability to keep meticulous records of what stage every site/installation has reached will be key to your success, backed up by your excellent IT skills and attention to detail.
  • Your other principal focus will be the Plug in Suffolk “Car Club” trial and its potential expansion. You will need to report to the relevant funding bodies and project sponsors regularly, as well as liaising with the commercial partner, Co-Wheels.
  • It would help you in your role if you had some knowledge of legal documents such as Leases and Licences, and knowledge of highway and planning legislation.
  • You will line manage one of the Project Support Officers, supervising, supporting and coaching them in their work; prior experience of line managing a junior staff member would be an advantage.

Requirements

  • Outstanding project management skills and a meticulous approach to maintaining project documentation and records.
  • Experience and skill in managing relationships with stakeholders, some of whom will be more invested in the success of the LEVI project than others.
  • A genuine passion for helping Suffolk tackle its carbon emissions and in particular, those associated with transportation.
  • An ability and willingness to learn about the legal/property transactions required to secure LEVI sites owned by third parties, and the patience to see those through to handover to the relevant project manager.
  • Excellent attention to detail so you can identify errors in site drawings, legal documents, and maintain accurate project records.

Benefits

  • up to 29 days annual leave entitlement (pro rata), plus UK bank holidays and two paid volunteering days
  • membership of a competitive Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)
  • travel, lifestyle, health and wellbeing benefits
  • performance-related annual pay progression, in addition to an annual cost-of-living pay increase
  • training and encouragement to expand your knowledge
  • a variety of career development opportunities across our organisation
  • diverse and active staff networks
  • flexible working options, with the right to request flexible working from your first day
