About the role

  • Mechanical Designer providing design for capital projects at Solstice Advanced Materials. Role may be based in Baton Rouge, LA; Colonial Heights, VA; or Houston, TX.

Responsibilities

  • Support mechanical and piping design activities through Pre‑FEED, FEED, detailed design, construction support, and startup/commissioning
  • Serve as a technical design resource for capital projects, coordinating with engineering, operations, maintenance, and construction teams
  • Develop piping isometrics, shop drawings, and installation documents for fabrication and construction
  • Prepare piping designs using P&IDs, general arrangements, piping specifications, and vendor equipment drawings
  • Design piping systems for pumps, tanks, control valve stations, inline instrumentation, and other limited equipment
  • Perform field design and verification, including site walks, constructability reviews, and coordination with site and construction personnel
  • Prepare material take‑offs and support construction planning activities
  • Apply department and company design and CAD drafting standards consistently
  • Maintain drawing and document accuracy throughout design, construction, and as‑built phases
  • Identify and communicate scope changes, support change order development, and highlight schedule risks or improvement opportunities
  • Support construction by resolving technical questions, addressing field discrepancies, and updating as‑built documentation
  • Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors on equipment specifications, installation details, and system integration
  • Participate in interdisciplinary reviews to ensure alignment across engineering disciplines
  • Support training, professional development, and knowledge sharing within the design organization
  • Provide on‑site support during construction and startup, as required

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Computer‑Aided Drafting, or related field, with 5–8 years of experience, or 8–10 years of relevant experience in an engineering firm or industrial manufacturing environment (chemical, petrochemical, or similar)
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%, as required
  • Working knowledge of PIP, ASME, ANSI, API, and related mechanical and piping codes and standards
  • Knowledge of piping materials, supports, restraints, and construction bulk materials
  • Experience in designing process and utility piping systems
  • Working knowledge of manual valve sizing, selection, and application
  • Ability to perform basic piping flexibility analysis
  • Proficiency in drafting P&IDs and general arrangement drawings
  • Ability to produce accurate installation documents from vendor equipment drawings
  • Understanding of interdisciplinary workflows, schedule constraints, and deliverable requirements
  • Ability to estimate task durations and manage assigned work efficiently
  • Experience with 2D AutoCAD and MicroStation, and 3D modeling tools
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and presentation skills
  • Self‑starter with a results‑driven mindset and strong bias for action
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem‑solving, and time‑management skills
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification, or equivalent continuous improvement experience
