About the role

  • Manager overseeing leadership and management of in-patient surgery unit at Scarborough Health Network. Fostering excellence in patient care while managing resources and clinical operations.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Program Director, Surgery and Ambulatory Care, this position is responsible for the leadership and management of an in-patient surgery unit.
  • The scope of the role includes inspiring others, effectively managing financial and human resources, overseeing clinical operations, promoting excellence in patient care and advancing team effectiveness and efficiency in a multidisciplinary Professional Practice Model.
  • The manager is also expected to support and implement evidence based practices and continuing process improvements to meet unit, program and organizational goals.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing with a commitment to continuing education with membership in relevant professional association, Master’s Degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years’ supervisory/managerial experience, including managerial accountability, in a Health Care Environment
  • Minimum 5 years’ surgical nursing experience as well as experience in Endoscopy and Outpatient clinics
  • Effective computer skills in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven ability to accomplish objectives through others.
  • Demonstrated skills in change management, project management and human resources management
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize lean methodology tools to enhance the programs performance
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, control and evaluate management activities and to function in a self-directed but collaborative way
  • Strong business and financial management experience
  • Thorough understanding of utilization management and benchmarking
  • Evidence of planning, analytical and organizational experience
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated pattern of good attendance and work record
  • Ability to work well independently, perform the essential duties of the position and to exercise sound judgement
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, infection control and environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area
  • Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public
  • Demonstrated pattern of good attendance and work record
