About the role
- In-house Legal Counsel establishing and owning legal function at AI-focused company. Negotiating contracts and providing legal support to business operations while ensuring compliance.
Responsibilities
- Own and negotiate customer contracts, including enterprise SaaS MSAs, DPAs, renewals and upsells
- Enable enterprise deal velocity by providing fast, commercial, risk-aware legal support
- Lead privacy, data protection and security obligations across customers and vendors
- Manage and prioritise sub-processor contracting and compliance
- Build legal playbooks, frameworks and escalation paths for the business
- Reduce reliance on external counsel by bringing work in-house
- Act as a trusted legal partner to People, Sales, Ops and leadership, including joining customer legal calls when needed
Requirements
- ~5–10 years PQE (ideally ~7) from a strong commercial law firm and/or in-house role
- Deep experience negotiating enterprise SaaS contracts, including MSAs and DPAs (hands-on, not advisory-only)
- Strong understanding of privacy and data protection regimes (e.g. GDPR-style frameworks)
- Comfortable being a first legal hire with ownership, autonomy and ambiguity
- Commercial mindset with the ability to balance speed, risk and pragmatism
- Confident influencing non-lawyers and representing the company with customer legal teams
- High ownership, decisiveness and bias to action in a fast-moving environment
- Nice to have: Experience supporting global or cross-border operations, customers or data flows, particularly in a high-growth tech or SaaS environment
