About the role

  • DevOps Engineering Manager leading middleware platform engineering team at QVC. Combining technical leadership with hands-on engineering to evolve the enterprise middleware infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Design and architect scalable, highly available middleware platform solutions
  • Design and implement network architectures including load balancers, service mesh configurations
  • Build reference architectures and design patterns for middleware integration
  • Drive platform evolution from legacy systems to cloud-native architectures
  • Lead incident response for platform-level issues
  • Write production-grade code in Python, Go, or similar languages for platform automation
  • Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, or ARM templates
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines for middleware platform deployments
  • Build monitoring, observability, and alerting solutions for middleware platforms
  • Implement security best practices and define/track SLOs/SLIs

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps, platform engineering, or infrastructure engineering
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with at least 4 middleware platforms: NGINX, Kong, Apigee, Azure APIM, AWS API Gateway, Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, IBM MQ, Azure Service Bus, AWS SQS/SNS, MuleSoft, Dell Boomi, Apache Camel, Istio, Linkerd, Consul
  • Programming skills in Python, Go, Java, or similar languages
  • Expert-level knowledge of Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Ansible, Pulumi, or CloudFormation
  • Understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, SSL/TLS, HTTP/HTTPS protocols
  • Experience with load balancers: NGINX Plus, HAProxy, F5, Azure Load Balancer, AWS ALB/NLB
  • Proficiency with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and orchestration platforms
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and hybrid cloud architectures
