About the role
- DevOps Engineering Manager leading middleware platform engineering team at QVC. Combining technical leadership with hands-on engineering to evolve the enterprise middleware infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Design and architect scalable, highly available middleware platform solutions
- Design and implement network architectures including load balancers, service mesh configurations
- Build reference architectures and design patterns for middleware integration
- Drive platform evolution from legacy systems to cloud-native architectures
- Lead incident response for platform-level issues
- Write production-grade code in Python, Go, or similar languages for platform automation
- Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, or ARM templates
- Implement CI/CD pipelines for middleware platform deployments
- Build monitoring, observability, and alerting solutions for middleware platforms
- Implement security best practices and define/track SLOs/SLIs
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in DevOps, platform engineering, or infrastructure engineering
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with at least 4 middleware platforms: NGINX, Kong, Apigee, Azure APIM, AWS API Gateway, Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, IBM MQ, Azure Service Bus, AWS SQS/SNS, MuleSoft, Dell Boomi, Apache Camel, Istio, Linkerd, Consul
- Programming skills in Python, Go, Java, or similar languages
- Expert-level knowledge of Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Ansible, Pulumi, or CloudFormation
- Understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, SSL/TLS, HTTP/HTTPS protocols
- Experience with load balancers: NGINX Plus, HAProxy, F5, Azure Load Balancer, AWS ALB/NLB
- Proficiency with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and orchestration platforms
- Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and hybrid cloud architectures
