About the role
- Head of Technology Operations & Security leading IT and security for a deep-tech scale-up. Overseeing IT operations and governance while implementing security within quantum communication technologies.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, operate and continuously improve the IT and security backbone of a fast-growing, security-critical organization
- Lead a small in-house IT team and ensure operational IT, security requirements and business priorities are aligned
- Establish clear IT governance, processes and enforceable standards
- Ensure security policies and governance requirements are understood, implemented and embedded across the organization
- Translate CISO-defined security and compliance requirements into practical operational implementations within IT
- Prioritize work, manage tasks and drive operational excellence with limited resources
- Responsible for the IT budget (planning, prioritization, cost control, vendor management)
- Lead a small team (currently 2 FTE) and coordinate an external 1st-level service provider
- Pragmatic, medium-term roadmap aligned to growth, risk and compliance needs
- Leadership & team development, operational responsibility (hands-on), governance, processes & documentation, enabling security, compliance & ISMS, service delivery & first-line support, resilience oversight & stakeholder management, translating business, governance and security requirements into operational IT structures
Requirements
- Proven experience leading and developing a small IT/infrastructure team
- Experience owning an IT budget and managing a vendor landscape
- Strong knowledge of IT governance and ITIL-aligned service management (Incident/Problem/Change/Request/Access/Asset)
- Microsoft 365 expertise and fundamentals of identity/endpoint management; familiar with Apple environments
- Experience in incident management including root cause analysis and remediation measures
- Solid understanding of networking (topologies, routing, tunneling/VPN)
- Solid understanding of Linux administration (operations, patching, hardening)
- Pragmatic stakeholder communication; calm under pressure
- Mindset for cloud-first architectures with minimal required on-premise footprint
- Nice-to-have: automation (PowerShell/Bash), scripting mindset, configuration management (Ansible/Puppet), cloud operations experience, Docker/modern deployment patterns
- Exposure to ISO 27001, NIS2, DORA (from an implementation perspective)
- Site-to-site VPN, 802.1X, segmentation concepts and familiarity with SIEM/EDR (e.g., Microsoft Defender/Sentinel)
