About the role

  • Firearms Purchasing Program Consultant managing criminal history records for firearm purchase eligibility at Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Training customers and ensuring data integrity in department databases.

Responsibilities

  • Completing task analyses and workflow documentation with such goals as to resolve programmatic, administrative, and operational issues;
  • Acting as a team leader in the absence of management, allocating resources to maximize productivity and efficiency;
  • Creating schedules as needed for queues, phones, and other operational activities;
  • Reviewing and processing firearm transactions in the Firearm Eligibility System (FES) queue from licensed firearm dealers to screen potential buyer's eligibility to purchase a firearm;
  • Evaluating requests by analyzing criminal justice information in FES in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner and processing transactions in accordance with state and federal law;
  • Assessing, analyzing, and making recommendations to resolve issues and problems within the Section/Bureau/Division;
  • Contacting local, state, and federal agencies by telephone or written correspondence to obtain information necessary to determine a firearm buyer's eligibility;
  • Evaluating workflow cases to ensure quality control of information submitted through CCH workflow.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system
  • Knowledge of office and administrative principles and practices
  • Knowledge of the methods of data collection
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication
  • Knowledge of the FCIC/NCIC, III, CCH, and NICS information systems
  • Knowledge of customer service etiquette and ability to apply it effectively
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to read and interpret law enforcement data, Florida Statutes, Commission Rules, and Divisional Policy and Procedures.
