About the role

  • Science Communication Manager for MERKUR GROUP driving evidence-based initiatives on player protection. Involves analysis, research, publications, and public affairs collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct systematic research and analyses on topics such as gambling and addiction research, prevention, and the effectiveness of player protection measures
  • Prepare results with scientific rigor
  • Write essays, white papers, and scientific publications
  • Translate complex research findings into concise policy briefs or management presentations
  • Build a European network with universities, research groups, and think tanks and maintain existing collaborations
  • Initiate joint projects, studies, or workshops in close cooperation with academia and industry
  • Provide expert input to support MERKUR GROUP's public affairs work
  • Participate in associations and consultations and represent the company at national and international events
  • Develop structures to measure scientific activities and define relevant KPIs (e.g., publications, partnerships, conference contributions) and take responsibility for reporting

Requirements

  • Completed Master's degree (or equivalent qualification) in Psychology, Public Health/Epidemiology, Behavioral Economics, Social Sciences, or Data Science/Statistics with a focus on health or behavioral data
  • Several years of experience in scientific research — including study design, statistics (R, Python, or SPSS), and conducting systematic reviews
  • Excellent scientific writing skills and German and English language proficiency at a minimum of C1 level, both written and spoken
  • Demonstrable networking strength (e.g., through consortia, third-party funded projects, or conference contributions) and a confident, empathetic manner
  • Solid understanding of Responsible Gaming, player protection, prevention, or related consumer protection topics — ideally with an interest in regulation in the DACH region and the EU
  • High integrity, strong sense of responsibility, and willingness to travel 20–40%
