About the role

• AI Engineer in a healthcare startup working on autonomous patient issue handling using AI. Collaborating on the Karla support agent and improving patient communication processes in healthcare.

Responsibilities

• Shape the AI standard: You contribute to the development of our prompt and configuration standards, help clearly define what belongs in the standard versus what is configured per customer, and design safety nets so the AI acts safely and purposefully in the vast majority of cases.
• Reusable building blocks: You help build robust prompt patterns and configuration modules and prepare guidelines and best practices so the team and service partners can apply them easily.
• 2nd-level support: You support the customer team with complex cases, prepare well-founded recommendations, and coordinate with customers when needed.
• Support onboardings: You assist with customer onboardings, perform configurations and monitor their effects in live operation to derive targeted improvements together with product and engineering.
• Advance CARL: You work on the development of our AI-based onboarding and support agent CARL (prompting, tools, workflows) and help make configuration adjustments for us and our partners more efficient.
• Evaluation and monitoring: You help set up metrics, tests and A/B experiments for AI dialogues (e.g., task success, safety, hallucinations), configure monitoring and deliver structured analyses for iterative improvements.

Requirements

• Completed degree in a relevant field (STEM, business informatics, or similar) or an equivalent qualification.
• Initial practical experience with AI/LLMs (e.g., prompting & agents) — from projects, internships, working-student roles or personal applications.
• Analytical and structured working style: formulate and test hypotheses and document results clearly.
• Strong service and team orientation: enjoyment of customer contact and confident, empathetic communication.
• Excellent written and spoken German and good command of English.
• Genuine interest in the healthcare sector and in understanding clinical workflows; high sense of responsibility for data protection and safety, and willingness to learn in a dynamic start-up environment.
