About the role

  • Supplier Development Engineer evaluating and improving supplier quality systems for a major metals distribution company. Collaborating with supply chain to support OEM and Tier 1 customers with a focus on quality and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site audits to evaluate supplier quality systems and manufacturing capabilities
  • Assess machining, fabrication, and inspection processes
  • Review supplier documentation including: Production Part Approval Process (PPAPs), Control Plans, First Article Inspections
  • Monitor supplier performance (quality, delivery, responsiveness)
  • Lead corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support supplier selection, consolidation, and strategic sourcing decisions
  • Partner cross-functionally to reduce supplier-driven risk and variability
  • Travel expectations ~25–40%

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of experience in supplier quality, manufacturing engineering, or quality systems
  • Experience auditing suppliers in machining, fabrication, or metals processing
  • Strong knowledge of: ISO 9001, Root cause and corrective action, Process capability and SPC
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer.
