About the role
- Supplier Development Engineer evaluating and improving supplier quality systems for a major metals distribution company. Collaborating with supply chain to support OEM and Tier 1 customers with a focus on quality and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site audits to evaluate supplier quality systems and manufacturing capabilities
- Assess machining, fabrication, and inspection processes
- Review supplier documentation including: Production Part Approval Process (PPAPs), Control Plans, First Article Inspections
- Monitor supplier performance (quality, delivery, responsiveness)
- Lead corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives
- Support supplier selection, consolidation, and strategic sourcing decisions
- Partner cross-functionally to reduce supplier-driven risk and variability
- Travel expectations ~25–40%
Requirements
- 5–10 years of experience in supplier quality, manufacturing engineering, or quality systems
- Experience auditing suppliers in machining, fabrication, or metals processing
- Strong knowledge of: ISO 9001, Root cause and corrective action, Process capability and SPC
- Strong communication and influencing skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer.
