About the role

  • Operations Specialist directing logistics operations and management at LyondellBasell in Houston, working with various teams and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Manage domestic truck movements in support of North America Manufacturing operations.
  • Act as a main point of contact for Account Specialists, Plant Logistics Specialists, Operations Planners, Manufacturing, Sales, Marketing, Logistics Commercial, and third-party Logistics Service Providers (LSP) concerning all domestic truck shipments.
  • Manage and effectively control all applicable logistic operations for the assigned mode to create a competitive advantage in cost and service.
  • Provide specialized analytical support to monitor and achieve continuous improvement of quality, service, and cost performance; measure non-optimal costs.
  • Conduct operational meetings as necessary with applicable LSP to review operational performance and metrics.
  • Lead or participate in scheduled LSP audits as applicable.
  • Ensure LyondellBasell is adequately supplied with uninterrupted services at the most favorable competitive value and in all conditions.
  • Facilitate effective collaboration with Logistics Business Consultants in the qualification and assessment of suppliers of transportation services to ensure customer service levels are maintained.
  • Responsible for monitoring and adjusting to market conditions, new technology, best practices, and trends in supply markets.
  • Perform assigned tasks within Quality Notifications, ensuring acceptable root cause analysis, corrective/preventative action, and timely closure.
  • Record, trend, and communicate monthly performance metrics.
  • Maintain world-class transportation knowledge by staying abreast of legislative and regulatory activities and of new developments in transportation through contacts with peers in various carrier and shipper organizations, including DOT and FMCSA.
  • Monitor and track Premium Freight across all modes of transportation.
  • Maintain Goal Zero performance on Personal Safety, Logistics Compliance, and Wrong Product Shipped.
  • Operate with a solution-oriented mindset regarding process improvements; Assist with change implementation for extended system improvements or other logistics projects.
  • Partner with peers to provide solutions and guidance to resolve logistics or business-related problems.
  • Model LyondellBasell core competencies with internal and external customers/suppliers.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years’ relevant, industry-related experience.
  • The ideal candidate will have a demonstrable knowledge of order entry systems, tracking systems, delivery planning, rail and truck operations, and an understanding of manufacturing capabilities.
  • Able to possess good judgment in problem solving, knowledge of the company, product movements, and inventory, logistics, and transportation operations, and company products.
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred, but not required
  • A willingness to work on a flexible work schedule is required.
  • High initiative and ability to work independently.
  • This role is expected to travel and/or attend external events up to 20%.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in the I&D side of the business for both Tank Trucks and Iso Containers.
  • The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with both external and internal customers.
  • The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills for problem resolution and decision-making.
  • Able to maintain professionalism and prioritize responsibilities in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Composed in time-sensitive situations, comfortable delivering difficult news.
  • Proficient in MS Office, SAP, Bourque, and Inventory Management tools (i.e., IBP, SAP APO).
