About the role

  • Service Charge Leasehold Accountant responsible for service charge budgets and financial analysis for a housing provider. Engage with leaseholders and auditors to ensure compliance and accurate records.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and manage annual service charge budgets and actuals for leasehold schemes
  • Provide financial analysis and reporting to support decision-making within the leasehold team.
  • Reconcile service charge accounts and ensure timely issuance of year-end statements to leaseholders.
  • Monitor income and expenditure across leasehold accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
  • Respond to leaseholder queries regarding service charges and financial matters in a professional and timely manner.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across departments to ensure alignment of financial and operational data.
  • Support the development and implementation of financial systems and processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Liaise with auditors to support the preparation of service charge accounts and ensure compliance with relevant legislation (e.g., Landlord and Tenant Act 1985).
  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with internal controls and external regulations.

Requirements

  • Part or fully qualified accountant (e.g., AAT, ACCA, CIMA, or working towards).
  • Proven and recent experience in leasehold or property accounting, ideally within housing or property management.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to confidently explain complex information clearly, logically and concisely.
  • Familiarity with housing management systems & finance systems (e.g., MRI, Open Housing, Open Accounts) and reporting requirements.
  • Up-to-date understanding of the social housing sector and Regulator of Social Housing Rent Standard.
  • Right to Work in the UK - visa sponsorship is not available.
  • A standard DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check will be required for the successful candidate as part of the pre-employment process - Criminal Conviction Checks
