About the role

  • Legal Counsel managing contract negotiations and legal advisory for public procurement at Fraunhofer Institute. Supporting internal teams with contractual tasks and legal compliance in German and English.

Responsibilities

  • Contract drafting: You prepare and review contracts for work and services (Werkverträge), service agreements, General Terms and Conditions (GTC) and other types of contracts, particularly in the context of procurement and tendering, in German and English.
  • Contract negotiations: You coordinate and conduct contract negotiations with internal and external partners in German and English.
  • Legal advice: You advise our procurement staff on all legal matters relating to public procurement law and, where necessary, prepare expert legal opinions.
  • Legal enforcement: You review and support the enforcement of claims and post-contractual legal remedies, e.g., warranty claims, delay in performance, non-performance or defective performance.
  • Coordination: You work closely with the legal units of the Fraunhofer central administration on contractual and procurement law issues.
  • Quality & Innovation: You are responsible for monitoring and quality-controlling AI-based legal review processes.

Requirements

  • Completed studies in law (ideally Second State Examination) or a degree as a business lawyer (Wirtschaftsjurist) with relevant professional experience
  • Good knowledge of contract law
  • Preferably professional experience in public procurement law and/or IT law
  • Interest in a wide range of legal issues as well as economic and technical-scientific contexts
  • Business-fluent German and English, both written and spoken
  • The position is also suitable for career starters with relevant prior knowledge and experience from internships, academic projects or thesis work.
