Responsibilities
- Advising the business on a wide range of complex product and commercial matters.
- Leading the drafting and negotiation of strategic commercial agreements.
- Overseeing the review and drafting of template agreements governing the marketplace's operations.
- Advising clients and key stakeholders on complex legal issues, marketing and operational matters, and business strategy, and manage/assess risk in connection with the company’s products and commercial relationships.
- Proactively managing large-scale projects and ‘go to market’ launches with long-term goals.
- Identifying and managing cross-functional strategic initiatives related to the company’s products and commercial relationships.
- Building positive and highly collaborative relationships across Hiive.
Requirements
- A J.D. or L.L.B. with a license to practice law in the United States or in Canada.
- 8+ years of relevant legal experience, ideally having started out at a law firm and honed in-house at a technology company.
- Proven experience in drafting and negotiating vendor, marketing, and other complex and strategic commercial agreements.
- Substantial experience counselling product teams on a broad spectrum of applicable legal issues.
- Experience advising fintech or technology companies, or financial institutions.
- A keen interest in creative legal problem-solving, including researching novel and ambiguous areas of law.
- A desire to work on an agile team providing pragmatic advice and guidance to product, business, and operations teams that are moving very quickly.
- A track record of sound judgment and composure in high-pressure situations.
