Process Engineer providing engineering support to optimize refinery operations and implement long-term strategies. Involves collaboration with multiple disciplines within the Puget Sound Refinery.
Responsibilities
Provide process engineering support to ensure safe, environmentally sound, reliable and profitable operation of the units to which they are assigned.
Be a proactive participant in the Field Support Team (FST), working closely with Operations, Maintenance, Inspection, and the other Engineering disciplines to ensure thorough and complete communication of process issues to the team.
Play an integral role in unit troubleshooting, taking the lead when necessary to facilitate problem resolution when the problem encountered is technical in nature and requires a Process Engineer's knowledge and expertise.
Identify opportunities to improve unit safety, environmental performance, reliability, and profitability and prioritize and develop these opportunities through site work process including project idea submittals.
Participate as necessary in unit PHAs, Bow Ties, and Corrosion Control Document Reviews and lead discipline specific Management of Change (MOC) reviews.
Keep Tech and Ops Management apprised of problematic unit conditions and issues as they arise.
Utilize Risk-Based Decision-Making skills in prioritizing work and communicating incentives and constraints to Management and to the FST.
Work closely and effectively with technology licensors and various discipline subject matter experts.
Maintain a Process Engineering Proactive Monitoring Workbook for each process area of responsibility.
Support training of operations on heat and material balances, control of separation processes, and other unit operations.
Provide mentoring and quality assurance to operations personnel of proper combustion health and energy conservation for fired heaters.
Be an active member in company technical networks for best practice sharing and implementation.
Participate in and/or Facilitate root cause investigations.
Requirements
A minimum of three years of progressive work experience in a process engineering field.
An understanding of basic refinery processes, utility systems and the elements of process safety.
Preferred Experience: Refinery or petrochemical industry experience with direct support to operations.
Some or all of Distillation, CCR, Delayed Coking, hydrotreating, and fired heater experience is desired.
Experience with Energy and CO2 reduction is also desirable.
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline is required.
Preferred Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering.
Working knowledge of engineering concepts and ability to apply this knowledge analytically.
Strong spreadsheet and word processing applications knowledge.
