Responsibilities

  • Advising publishing colleagues on media law and related litigation
  • Reading and vetting manuscripts with authors prior to publication
  • Responding to potential legal claims
  • Analyzing business/legal issues as they may apply to the company
  • Overseeing copyright statutory terminations
  • Advising on digital and traditional marketing and the sale of books
  • Strategizing and managing litigation
  • Assisting in other legal areas as the need arises

Requirements

  • JD degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a law firm or media company
  • Strong substantive knowledge of general media law issues, including defamation, copyright, trademark, right of publicity, advertising and related fields
  • Substantial experience in federal and state litigation practice
  • Understanding and awareness of publishing industry
  • Practical knowledge of business law preferred
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels across the organization
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
