About the role
- Media Relations Specialist supporting Military Health System and Defense Health Agency objectives. Conducting media relations activities and collaborating with communication teams.
Responsibilities
- Conduct media relations activities to advance MHS and DHA objectives
- Research, plan, execute, and assess media relations activities
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with headquarters level subject matter experts (SMEs)
- Produce daily media reports for senior leadership
- Identify and pitch complex topics to media outlets
- Plan, execute, and assess media engagements
- Write and coordinate Public Affairs Guidance, press releases, and related materials
- Ensure products comply with AP Style and other requirements
Requirements
- Degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or similar field
- Mastery of the principles, methods, practices, and techniques of communication
- Ability to conduct and/or lead media relations activities related to a variety of topics
- Experience and/or education in identifying, researching, and effectively pitching complicated topics to a variety of outlets
- Experience and/or education in establishing and maintaining relationships with the media
- Experience in planning, executing/facilitating, and assessing media engagements
- Experience in writing and coordinating Public Affairs Guidance, talking points, and related products
- Experience in oral and written communications
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment both independently and as a team
